Let me tell you a story. An elderly woman I grew up to know trained all her kids to maturity and success. All of them became very successful and barely paid her regular visits.
She has Consultant Physicians, Professors, Politicians, Bureaucrats and Captains of Industry amongst her seven children spread across great nations of the world.
They waited till they were rich enough to give back to her sufficiently and they all contributed to buy her a saloon car on her 95th birthday.
She barely rode in the car as her carer, who doubled as her make shift driver secured entry into the primordial privates of everything in skirts in the neighbourhood with the vehicle. She passed on at 96years. The children returned to renovate her apartment after her demise in preparation for her grand funeral.
Friends, he who waits to do a great deal of good at once, will never do anything. Think of the quantum of investments your parents have made on you and give back to them on time.
If you have ever spent on your child, you will appreciate your parents more. They sacrificed that we might have life and purpose...
I remember it was my younger sister that began the idea of recharging our parents' mobile phone with N3,000 worth of airtime from the date she got married till date. It appeared so little, yet, simple gestures matter in the throes of intention and genuine appreciation... Whilst men like me would prefer to give a huge gift at once, someone started with what she could afford in trickles. Consistently too...
If you look at the pyramid of growth, you will realise that you will never have enough to spare on your parents as family demands increase. You just have to decide and be responsible...
Do not wait till your parents are old, unuseful to themselves and smitten with age before you give back and take good care of them. They are your responsibility at old age...
There is nothing sweeter in all the world than reaping the fruits of your labour on your children...
Do not wait till you are Billionaires before you let them taste of the good fortune that investing on you becomes. It is foolish to assume that a man does not deserve praises for raising his own children- not every parent was responsible for theirs. It could be worse.
Of what use is an SUV to your aged parent at 90years?
Of what nutritional value is a fattened bullock meat to a Grand mother in her 80s when her teeth is worn out and mouth tasteless?
Do not wait till your parents are gone before you renovate their house and feed ten thousand unconcerned stranger mouths at their funeral? Do not lose your mum and your money...
If your parents had a cow a month, they would probably be alive...
Do the little you can whilst you can... I enjoin us all...
In any case- there is no prayer more potent and effective over your life like those of the parents who birthed you. Not even those of your Imamprenuers and Pastorpreneurs...
Earn their prayers with your gifts and presence. Take care of them and spend time with them...
Who told you your parents will even live till 80s or 90s when you plan to take care of them, even though we pray for longevity for them. Is tomorrow assured anyone?
How are you sure you will even be ever rich enough to do the huge surprises at that future time with increased responsibilities?
In this era where pensions are delayed and gratuities unpaid- will it not be applaudable if you place your parents on monthly stipends as upkeep?
It is on this note that my siblings and I decided to contribute our token as monthly upkeeps for our parent.
