 1) Lawmakers at the Benue State House of Assembly have
moved to impeach the Deputy Governor, Benson Abounu.
It was gathered that the impeachment plot was predicated
on the recent detention of the Speaker, Terkimbi Ikyange,
and other principal officers of the House based on a
petition by a son of the deputy governor.
2) The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has insisted that
their mind have since gone out of Nigeria. The group, which
was reacting to a recent claim by the Department of
Security Service, DSS, said it won’t be distracted by the
false report against it by the DSS, adding that they will
never return to Nigeria.
3) The Bauchi State Police Command has disclosed that
some evil-minded people have stormed the State to
abducted under-age children for ransom or other motives.
The Command has, therefore, urged members of the public
to monitor their children and be security conscious by
paying special attention to strangers and report suspicious
persons or objects within their neighbourhood to the nearest
Police Station or through the emergency phone number

4) Resurgent Militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers, on
early hours of Sunday confirmed it blew up several oil
facilities belonging to Chevron and Nigerian Petroleum
Development Corporation. Affected facilities include two
major oil wells, well head 7 and 8 situated near Abiteye flow
station in Warri South West Council Area of Delta state.
5) The Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, has denied a statement
credited to the Department of State Services that it arrested
two of its members. It said there was no way the DSS and
the Nigerian Army could arrest any of its members, adding
that those arrested by the operatives of the DSS were
“sleeper agents” of the security outfit.
6) At least six passengers were killed and 12 others injured
in a motor accident along Anyigba-Ajaokuta during the
weekend. An eye witness account told our correspondent
that the accident, which involved a Toyota bus with
registration number MKD 841 XA and A Golf car with
registration number LKJ 335 CV, occurred at Ojuwo-Olijo in
Ofu LGA of Kogi State.
7) Senator Ahmed Makarfi, chairman of the Caretaker
Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has
accused factional chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, of
positioning himself as presidential candidate of the party for
2019.
Makarfi said those already linking PDP issues to 2019 were
right, adding that although external forces cannot be ruled
out in the ongoing PDP saga, that had not been confirmed
yet.
8) Renowned constitutional lawyer and Senior Advocate of
Nigeria (SAN), Mr. Mike Ozekhome, has faulted Mr. Femi
Falana on his position that the there is no absolute
immunity for governors, deputy-governors, President and
vice-president in the country.
Ozekhome, who heads governor Fayose’s legal team
against the EFCC at the Federal High Court, Ado-Ekiti, said
contrary to Falana’s argument; election petitions were sue
generic, because they are in a class of their own.
He added that they are hybrid, neither civil nor criminal
procedures.
9) Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo state has urged
Nigerians to be patient with the administration of President
Muhammadu Buhari, saying that it will take some time to fix
the nation’s economy which according to him was battered
by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for 16 years. The
governor said changes takes time, not only in the life of a
person but more also in the life of a nation.
10) United States Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle
has restated his country’s commitment to assist Nigeria
fight corruption and ensure that no stolen funds were
laundered through its banking system.
Entwistle, who stated this at the 240th U.S. Independence
Anniversary celebration cocktail party in Abuja, said he was
eager to see a deeper relationship between U.S. and Nigeria
that would bring freedom for all Nigerians.
