2017 Jerusalem pilgrimage: 4,370 medical doctors write CBT exam
ON June 26, 2017 9:29 AM / IN News / BY
Okogba / Comments
By Joseph Erunke
ABUJA —A total of 4,370 medical doctors, who applied to work in this year’s Christians pilgrimage in Jerusalem, yesterday, wrote Computer Based Test, CBT, examination across the country.
The examination conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, in conjunction with the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, NCPC, took place in six zones of the country and Abuja.
But the examination body said the questions set for the doctors were drawn by Medical Council of Nigeria, explaining that it merely moderated the questions in a bid to ensure what it called “fairness.”
Of the number, according to JAMB, only 250 doctors will be selected based on performance in the examination to participate in the religious exercise.
JAMB’s Director of Special Duties, Olujide Adisa, while speaking during the exercise in Abuja, disclosed that a total of 4,370 medical doctors, who applied to work during the year’s Christian pilgrimage, were writing the examination.
Speaking further on why JAMB was handling the exercise, Adisa said: “We are to ensure that the questions follow the international standard. Our core duty is testing and we do more than conducting examination into higher institution, we do consultancy services too. “
Also speaking in Abuja, Mr David Atuwo, an NCPC board member and Deputy Director, Federal Ministry of Health, said the selection system was an improvement based on merit rather than bias.
He explained why the commission chose JAMB’s CBT for the examination: “The beauty of the CBT selection is that immediately you finish the exams, you have your score. You can’t deny your score because the system is there for verification. “
Atuwo disclosed that token of application fees were paid by the applicant doctors, explaining that doctors paid a bit more than the nurses for the examination.

Pilgrimage: JAMB Conducts
Exams for Doctors, Paramedics
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation
Board (JAMB) on Saturday conducted
screening examination for 4,370 doctors
and paramedics, who will provide
assistance to Christian pilgrims in
Jerusalem this year.
A board member, Nigerian Christian
Pilgrims Commission (NCPC), David
Atuwo, made the remarks shortly after
the exams in Bwari, Abuja. He said the
commission resolved to screen members
of this year’s pilgrim’s medical team
following irregularities in the previous
years and that incompetent applicants
would be disqualified.
“Today it is all based on merit. The board
thought it fit we should change the
system instead of somebody sitting down
in his house and making a list of people
to represent the medical team. We felt
that merit should take the forefront and
JAMB has done an enormous job for us,”
he said.
He said a total of 4,370 medical personnel
took the exams out of which 250
successful candidates would be
considered.
“Close to 4,370 candidates registered, at
the end of the day, we will know how
many sat for the exam. We have 250
spaces, if we are to sit down in our office
and put names it will not be fair,” he
said.
The successful applicants would form a
medical team that would work with
pilgrims to keep them healthy and
coordinate their care when they are sick.
JAMB Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede
said the board’s involvement in the
pilgrims’ exam was within its mandate of
testing, which included conducting
promotional examinations, scholarship
examinations and consultancy services
for interested institutions.
Represented by Director, Special Duties,
Olajide Adisa, he said the examination
was fair for all the applicants adding that
the questions were set up by the Medical
and Dental Council of Nigeria and
moderated by JAMB.
